Many organizations are comfortable with knowing what to report and withhold at the federal level, but fall short with regard to reporting and withholding requirements at the state level. Get an overview of specific issues you need to address at the state level, including reporting requirements, exceptions and limitations of the Combined Federal State Reporting Program (CFS), mandatory withholding requirements, backup withholding, non-state resident reporting and withholding, independent contractors, “deadbeat parents” and various other state-reporting and withholding issues.
Several states have withholding requirements on payments issued to out-of-state residents for services provided and backup withholding as well, to name a few. Withholding and deposits are strictly enforced and can lead to very costly penalties for compliance failures.
State requirements generally follow federal requirements. The impact of the impending requirement to report payments issued to corporations and the very significant proposed increases to the penalty assessments could significantly increase your exposure to federal and state requirements and penalties. Learn what requirements your organization needs to incorporate in the payment and withholding process, such as:
- Direct state filing requirements
- States with mandatory state withholding requirements
- Independent Contractor Reporting States
- IRS Combined Federal State Reporting Program (CFS)
- Penalty Programs
- Impact of HR 3408
- Requiring certification, withholding and reporting of payments issued to corporations
- Proposed increase of penalty thresholds up to 5 times the current thresholds
- Enforcement
- And much, much more!
