About our expert presenters:
Judy Bicking, APM
Former Global Director, Accounts Payable European Project, Johnson & Johnson
AP Best Practice Consultant and owner of Island Decor & More / Ship to Shore Home Decor
A 27-year Johnson & Johnson veteran, Judy Bicking started in the Credit Department of McNeil Consumer in Pennsylvania. After achieving a Regional Credit Manager role, she was asked to manage the accounts payable function and to update the AP system and process. Management acknowledged her contribution to achieving best practice and asked her to join J&J's corporate team investigating a national system and shared service center. This project was approved and Judy was transferred to New Jersey to lead the U.S. Shared Services AP Center. For 16 years she benchmarked best practices across industries and matched those practices to J&J’s completely decentralized environment. Her understanding of people, process and metrics were integral to the success of J&J's Shared Services Center, which supports 99+ businesses in the United States and Puerto Rico.
One major accomplishment was forming a team which brought to market the first interactive AP Web site for suppliers to view their history online 24/7 and to enter PO-related invoices, simply called “Web invoicing.” Judy also worked with Ariba's design team in designing their PO flip invoicing and online history.
More recently Judy served as Global Director to J&J’s European operations in its design and implementation of an AP Shared Service Center in Europe. The design included 14 languages, approximately five currencies, and SOX and VAT regulations; all of which made for a very interesting and complicated project.
Judy worked with TAPN in the development of an AP Certification program that would be recognized by companies’ upper management and is now a Certification Trainer. She believes certification is vital in getting Accounts Payable the professional recognition it deserves.
Judy is on the Advisory Board of The Accounts Payable Network and is a frequent conference speaker.

Why Is Accounts Payable Certification Necessary?
Much of what is done in accounts payable today has been developed in the past five years – some of it in the last two years. Today’s payables professional must use the latest electronic processing technologies to drastically reduce the cost of operations, work intuitively with every system and department within the organization, and completely change a number of procedures while creating new ones due to Sarbanes-Oxley. The profession has largely kept pace, much to its credit, but accounts payable professionals have had few ways to demonstrate their expertise either within the organization or to outside agencies.
