About the Training & Certification Programs

TAPN/IOMA provides the only training program and three-level certificate program for AP professionals. It gives you the full toolkit needed to train and certify the AP specialist, manager or the entire department. The training programs are presented in an engaging interactive, hands-on style led by veteran AP management experts and practitioners – at different cities around the country.

Learning Objectives – The objective of these live seminars is to prepare candidates for certification. The seminars provide a review of the entire scope of accounts payable function intended to refresh and expand the knowledge and understanding of seasoned payables personnel and instruct less-experienced payables staff in the myriad accounts payable issues contained under the following general topics:
  • Controls
  • Process Functions
  • Vendor Master File and Vendor Relations
  • Technology
  • Tax & Regulatory Issues
  • Travel & Entertainment
  • Management
Advanced preparation through study of the Accounts Payable Certification Programs Manual is strongly recommended.

The certification exams, created and managed by The Accounts Payable Network and IOMA, can be taken at the end of the program, and are designed for the specialist, manager and the department. Achievement of Accredited Payables Specialist (APS) or Manager (APM) and Department (APD) signifies that an individual (or department) has demonstrated a core level of accounts payable proficiency.

Why Is Accounts Payable Certification Necessary?

Much of what is done in accounts payable today has been developed in the past 5 years – some of it in the last 2 years. Today’s payables professional must use the latest electronic processing technologies to drastically reduce the cost of operations, work intuitively with every system and department within the organization, and completely change a number of procedures while creating new ones due to Sarbanes-Oxley. The profession has largely kept pace, much to its credit, but accounts payable professionals have had few ways to demonstrate their expertise either within the organization or to outside agencies. Read more about the Accounts Payable Certification Programs.

Who Should Attend?

The Accounts Payable Training/Certification Programs are designed for experienced AP managers, their staff, or the AP department as a whole, as well as those overseeing the AP function including accounting department managers, controllers and shared services managers, payroll managers, and P-card administrators, in public, private, governmental and non-profit organizations.
